In 2018 I decamped to Syon Park in West London to photograph Jo and Neshan’s stunning wedding under its conservatory’s glass domes. It was my first trip to be a Syon Park wedding photographer. This superb luxury venue is amazing for a wedding photographer - glass panels cover almost every angle, filling the place with gorgeous natural light. And why not top up on vitamin D whilst topping up your champagne? With long plants draping the corridors, huge (HUGE!) cactus dominating one room and beautiful manicured gardens, it’s perfect for an English summer wedding. It gives the impression of an old stately home yet with the convenience of being just beyond the centre of London.

I met Jo and Neshan for a pre-booking consultation the previous year at London’s Royal Festival Hall. We got on like a house on fire, and this was helped by the fact Neshan very sensibly is a Manchester United season ticket holder.  I learnt about how they were going to bring a big Armenian twist to the wedding (the groom’s heritage)  by getting married in St Sarkis church in Kensington - London’s main centre for orthodox Armenian weddings.

When the day came around, I had some time to kill, so I went to Syon Park to take some snaps of the stunning conservatory. With those in the bag, I headed over to Jo’s mum’s house to catch some preparation shots of her and her two bridesmaids in the kitchen. One bridesmaid, Jo’s future sister-in-law did her make up, whilst her sister poured the champagne.

From there we headed to the St Sarkis Church in Kensington, West London. St Sarkis is the only traditional Armenian church in England, and almost a century old. Under its bell tower, we squeezed into the wooden pews, and witnessed a traditional ceremony conducted by 3 people, complete with a crowning of the bride and groom!

From there on we headed to Syon Park, under the magnificent domes of the conservatory. A traditional Armenian band caused some impromptu dancing (midway though the couple shoot!) before heading in for fine food and wine. Such a wicked couple, and I loved being a Syon Park wedding photographer. Thankfully I’d see them 12 months later for Jo’s sister’s wedding…!
